I’ve been feeling a little fed up with academia lately. The texts on my reading list never cease to compile, my eyes hurt from squinting at endless pages of small print, and I sometimes I feel like my body will forever be stuck in the seated position. I find myself yearning for some much needed variety, both mentally and physically! Luckily, there are a number of opportunities in St Andrews. Personally I have found yoga to be a great stress reliever; it has allowed me to turn off the constant churning of thoughts for at least an hour each week. There are a number of classes that cater to a variety of styles and levels in town. The university gym offers a number of classes throughout the week, but I have found the classes run by independent teachers to be more in tune with my own practice. Posters advertising these classes can be found all over town. The class I go to on Tuesday nights is an hour and a half of vinyasa flow set in a beautiful little church hidden off one of the small side streets. The church is half a block from the castle ruins, also a great place to go explore as a study break!
